Fuzzy stochastic long-term model with consideration of uncertainties for deployment of distributed energy

Iraj AHMADIAN,Oveis ABEDINIA,Noradin GHADIMI

Frontiers in Energy 2014, Volume 8, Issue 4,   Pages 412-425 doi: 10.1007/s11708-014-0315-9

Abstract: This paper presents a novel modified interactive honey bee mating optimization (IHBMO) base fuzzy stochastic long-term approach for determining optimum location and size of distributed energy resources (DERs). The Monte Carlo simulation method is used to model the uncertainties associated with long-term load forecasting. A proper combination of several objectives is considered in the objective function. Reduction of loss and power purchased from the electricity market, loss reduction in peak load level and reduction in voltage deviation are considered simultaneously as the objective functions. First, these objectives are fuzzified and designed to be comparable with each other. Then, they are introduced into an IHBMO algorithm in order to obtain the solution which maximizes the value of integrated objective function. The output power of DERs is scheduled for each load level. An enhanced economic model is also proposed to justify investment on DER. An IEEE 30-bus radial distribution test system is used to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Reactive power deployment and cost benefit analysis in DNO operated distribution electricity markets

Atma Ram GUPTA,Ashwani KUMAR

Frontiers in Energy 2019, Volume 13, Issue 1,   Pages 86-98 doi: 10.1007/s11708-017-0456-8

Abstract: The aim of this paper is to analyze unbalanced radial distribution systems (UBRDS) with the distribution static compensator (D-STATCOM). The main objectives of this paper are D-STATCOM allocation in UBRDS with an objective of providing reactive power support to enhance voltage profile and reduce line losses of the distribution network, determination of optimal D-STATCOM rating subjected to minimization of total cost, and impact of D-STATCOM placement on improving power factor and savings in cost of energy loss. The analysis is conducted on a large industrial load model with light, medium and high loading scenarios. Further, the impact of load growth is also considered for better planning of the power distribution system. The results are obtained on standard 25-bus UBRDS to check the feasibility of the proposed methodology.

Recent progress in hydrodynamic characteristics research and application of annular centrifugal extractors

Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2022, Volume 16, Issue 6,   Pages 854-873 doi: 10.1007/s11705-022-2156-0

Abstract: The annular centrifugal extractor (ACE) integrates mixing and separation. It has been widely used in many industrial fields because of its low residence time, compact structure, and high mass transfer efficiency. Most of the literature has focused on flow instabilities, flow visualization, and computational fluid dynamics simulations. More recently, research on hydrodynamic behavior and structural optimization has received widespread attention. With the development of ACE technology, applications have been broadened into several new areas. Hence, this paper reviews research progress regarding ACE in terms of hydrodynamic characteristics and the structural improvements. The latest applications covering hydrometallurgy, nuclear fuel reprocessing, bio-extraction, catalytic reaction, and wastewater treatment are presented. We also evaluate future work in droplet breakup and coalescence mechanisms, structural improvements specific to different process requirements, scaling-up methods, and stability and reliability after scaling-up.
